Capital Repertory Theater

Capital Repertory Theatre, now in its 25th Silver Anniversary Season of award-winning theatre, is proud to be one of seventy-five professional theatres in LORT, the League of Resident Theatres.

The Park Playhouse

The Playhouse is a 2,000 seat outdoor theater that presents Broadway-style shows in Albany's Washington Park throughout the summer.

The Palace Theater

The Palace Theatre first opened its doors in October 1931. Today, it remains the sole survivor from this period and continues to make history with a widely diverse offering of popular acts and cultural events.

Times Union Center

Home to the AHL River Rats, Albany Conquest and the Siena Saints MAAC basketball team, The Times Union Center has hosted the NCAA National Championship in hockey and wrestling; the Eastern Regionals in basketball and hockey; as well as the MAAC basketball championship and the ECAC hockey championships. There are many other events, too, including concerts, family shows, ice shows, motorcross/monster truck events and trade shows.

Proctor's Theater

Built in 1926 at a cost of a $1.5 million, Proctor's is one of the most impressive vaudeville theaters left in the country, In use more than 300 days a year, Proctor's features a year-round season of Broadway touring shows, dance and music.

The Saratoga Performing Arts Center

Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the cultural attraction of upstate New York, presents the New York City Ballet, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Saratoga Chamber Music Festival, Freihofer's Jazz Festival, Lake George Opera, Pre-Performance Talks, Saratoga Wine & Food Festival and special events.

Troy Savings Bank Music Hall

Built in 1875, the Music Hall attracts hundreds of recording artists and performers from around the world. Home to the Albany Symphony Orchestra and Troy Chromatic Concert Series, it is one of the Capital Region's premiere National Historic Landmarks.

Saratoga Race Course

The Saratoga Race Track is arguably the most beautiful - and certainly the most historic - thoroughbred race course in America. The finest racehorses in the world, combined with long tradition and a pronounced theatricality make Saratoga's track a powerful magnet for thousands of racing fans during the month of August.

Washington Park and the Empire State Plaza in Albany and Central Park in Schenectady offer free concerts throughout the summer.

Near the Berkshires, the Williamstown Playhouse, Jacobs Pillow, and Tanglewood (summer home of the Boston Symphony) are an easy drive.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (R.P.I.)

The oldest engineering school in the country, for more than 178 years, Rensselaer has been committed to shaping tomorrow's innovators. A nationally renowned technological university, R.P.I. is dedicated to mobilizing academic resources for the needs of business and industry.

The Rensselaer Technology Park, Located in the Town of North Greenbush, New York, is owned and operated by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The park operates as a small business incubator that allows new tech companies to get a head start.

Russell Sage and the Sage Colleges

Comprised of Russell Sage College, Sage College of Albany, and Sage Graduate School, the two campuses are located in Troy. Degrees at all levels--- associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs are offered.

St. Rose

St. Rose College, with more than 4,500 students, is located in the heart of Albany and is private, independent and coeducational. Through a strong liberal education curriculum and progressive academic programs, the College serves traditional students and working professionals by offering 60 undergraduate programs and 43 graduate programs.

Siena College

Siena, a Catholic and Franciscan college, founded in 1937 by seven Franciscan friars, is an independent undergraduate liberal arts college located in Loudonville, New York, a suburban community just outside Albany.

Skidmore College

Founded in 1903, this four-year private, nondenominational, coed college offers liberal arts degrees, and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies. The Saratoga Springs campus is home to approximately 2,200 students from more than 40 states and 20 countries.

The State University of New York at Albany

Albany Nano Tech at the State University at Albany integrates the nanoelectronics, nanosystems and nanophotonics technologies that will power the nanotechnology revolution.

Union College

Founded in 1795, the first college chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York, Union is an independent, liberal arts college that offers nearly 1,000 courses in the humanities, the social sciences, the sciences, and engineering.

Medical Care

Albany Medical Center

The Hospital maintains several unique regional resources, including the NYS-designated regional trauma center, the NYS-designated regional prenatal care center, the region's only bone marrow, kidney, and pancreas transplantation programs, and the area's only NYS-designated AIDS treatment center.

Ellis Hospital

Ellis is recognized as one of the top 10 hospitals in the country and houses a major intensive care unit. With 352 beds plus an 82-bed nursing home, it is a Schenectady community hospital that is unusual in its scope and depth.

Samaritan Hospital

Located in Troy, Samaritan Hospital is a 238-bed hospital that offers, among many services, including emergency and medical/surgical inpatient care, critical care, maternity services, behavioral health, and the Women's Health Center. Samaritan's Cancer Treatment Center serves as a partner with the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Information Service located at the prestigious Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Saratoga Hospital

Saratoga Hospital is a 243-bed community hospital serving Saratoga County and the surrounding area It ranks among the top third of U.S. hospitals and offers a complete range of medical services.

Architectural Features

Empire State Plaza

One of the most ambitious urban renewal projects in America, the Empire State Plaza features 10 government buildings set on a six-story platform.

The Egg

The Egg, located in the Empire State Plaza, houses two theatres used for chamber music concerts, cabaret, lectures, multimedia presentations, solo performers and educational programming.

Museums

The New York State Museum

In Albany, this museum features a variety of permanent and changing exhibits on the cultural history of New York State

Schenectady Museum

Planetarium shows are offered at 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. The Museum will have special planetarium showings during school vacation weeks and on some holidays.

The Tang Museum

The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College opened in October 2000. Its facilities include: Two major exhibition galleries; a 150-person multi-purpose event space; two multimedia-equipped classrooms; permanent storage for the Tang's collection ;a rooftop patio for public events; a spacious, light-filled central atrium for openings and receptions; a Tang Store with books, design objects, and cultural products and a prep and workshop space for onsite exhibition design, staging, and construction work.

There is also an assortment of smaller special interest museums, for example, the Childrens' Museum, the National Museum of Dance and the Racing Museum in Saratoga Springs, as well as the Bottle Museum in Ballston Spa.
